Durban Hotels and Durban Accommodation
(Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, ZA)
Durban can offer a good choice of accommodation, whether you plan a holiday by the beach, a city centre break or a quiet stay in the suburbs. From boutique and big chain hotels to small guesthouses and lodges, the lively city of Durban has something to satisfy most people's tastes.
Whilst there are usually plenty of hotel rooms to go round, Christmas is a particularly busy time in Durban. It's worth booking any accommodation in advance at this time, and it should also be borne in mind that attractions will be more crowded than at any other time of the year.
Durban Hotels and Accommodation: Where to Stay - Durban, South Africa, SA
Durban's Golden Mile is the location for many of the city's big hotels. These range from those offering five-star accommodation to those which offer more reasonably priced lodging. Many hotels in this district of Durban are operated by large hotel chains, so visitors shouldn't expect too much in the way of individuality.
For real style and luxury accommodation on the Golden Mile, the Protea Hotel Edward is a famous upmarket hotel that has entertained more than its fair share of millionaires and movie stars in its long history. Or head to Durban's most famous five-star hotel, the Royal. It sets itself apart not just because it is steeped in heritage and character, but also because it is located away from the beach, on Smith Street and within the historic Central Business District.
If you don't mind travelling into the city when you want to go sightseeing and would prefer a quieter place to stay, then Durban's suburbs are ideal as a base. Most hotels here are relatively small and there is an abundance of rooms in quaint guesthouses or self-catering accommodation. Berea and Durban North are two suburbs that are particularly worth exploring.
Visitors can really get away from it all by staying in nearby Umhlanga. This district has plenty of good accommodation close to the beach, including small hotels, bed and breakfast rooms and self-catering apartments.
